Mid-Atlantic Brass Knuckles Tag Team Championship (1972-1973)
June 17, 1972 Spartanburg, SC (Memorial Auditorium)
The Great Bolo (Tom Renesto) and Bolo (Jody Hamilton) bring the Brass
Knucks Trophy in and defend it against Johnny Weaver and Art Nelson. The
referee throws the match out when Johnny and Art tear one of the Bolo’s
masks off and everyone in the dressing room comes out to separate the two
teams.
July 3, 1972 Charlotte, NC (Coliseum)
Johnny Weaver and Art Nelson defeat The Bolos in a re-match for the Trophy.
Weaver and Nelson won the title this night. (note: We submitted a question
concerning this to Mr. Hamilton a couple of years ago when he did an interview
for another website. Mr. Hamilton responded that the death of Ray Gunkel on
August 1, 1972 in Georgia, changed the Bolos plans to return to JCP for more
matches against Weaver and Nelson.)
June 7, 1973 Greensboro, NC (Coliseum)
After turning back the challenge of such teams as Rip Hawk and Swede
Hanson, Gene and Ole Anderson and the Royal Kangaroos for nearly a year,
Johnny Weaver and Art Nelson lose the Brass Knucks Trophy on this night.
The new Champions are Lord Jonathan Boyd and Norman Frederick Charles
III, the Royal Kangaroos. (note: The Royal Kangaroos had a special box made
to carry the trophy in.)
September 28, 1973 Richmond, VA (Coliseum)
After many re-matches throughout the territory, Johnny Weaver and Art
Nelson win the Brass Knucks Trophy once again by defeating the Royal
Kangaroos.
October, 1973
After wrestling for Fritz Von Erich’s promotion in Texas from June- September,
1973, George Scott returns to Jim Crockett Promotions in October to become
the head booker. The Brass Knuckles Tag Team Title disappeared by the end
of the year.
